Nets to start on Sunday 29 January

Our senior winter net sessions will start on Sunday 29 January and will again be held at the Eastwood Leisure Centre in Sheerwater (on every Sunday until April). As per last year, we will be running two sessions to accommodate the number of people we expect to attend. Also as per last year, the 1st and 2nd team squads will train from 2.30-4.00 with the 3rd and 4th team squads training from 4.00-5.30. Your captain for this season (Henri, Angus, Tom, Haresh) will be in touch to let you know about timings.

In a very exciting new development for this year, we will have a coach working with us at winter nets. Gareth Townsend, who spent many years as Surrey CCC’s Academy Director and has coached several players who have gone on to play international cricket, will be joining us this winter.

Sessions this winter will cost £10 for seniors and £5 for juniors. We look forward to seeing you in the coming weeks. Winter nets to take place at Eastwood Leisure Centre from last Sunday in January

Our winter nets are, once again, set to take place on Sunday afternoons at the Eastwood Leisure Centre in Sheewater from the last Sunday in January (29th).

More details about the times for each squad will be available in the new year.

AGM update: Phill West to replace Keith as Chair

It was all change at the AGM on Monday night as Keith Goodwin stepped down from his role as Chair after three years in charge. Keith took on the role in 2019 and almost immediately had the challenging task of managing the club through the COVID crisis, a task he took on with great skill, which culminated with him winning the Clubperson of the Year in 2020. Keith’s replacement will be Phill West who also retains the job of Cricket Chairman.

There were several changes of captain too, although not at 1stXI level where Henri Peters will still be in charge for 2023. Angus Hargan will take over from Johnny Ayling in the 2ndXI, Tom Bartosak-Harlow will take over in the threes, and Haresh Rao will skipper the fours as he replaces Dan Clark. We thank Keith, Johnny, Ali, and Dan for all their hard work down the years.

All those present unanimously agreed to adopting the ECB’s Anti-Discriminatory policy within the club’s constitution.

A proposal was voted in whereby the Executive Committee would be slimmed down to nine roles from next season with the focus on setting up sub committees to support the main committee. We are looking for people who are able to volunteer for an hour or two a week to help manage the Bar, Building and House, Cricket and Ground in particular. There is always a job to do around the club come summer or winter and we really need your help. W&HCC AGM - Monday 5th December 2022

The annual W&HCC AGM will take place on Monday 5th December at 8.00 at our clubhouse in Brewery Road.

2022 was a challenging year in many respects and we are looking for a number of volunteers to step forward at the AGM and for the 2023 season to get involved in the running of your club. Even if you can only spare an hour a week to help out that would be of massive benefit to the Committee as there are always a huge number of jobs that need doing just to ensure the day to day running of Woking and Horsell Cricket Club and to just get the large numbers of teams we have out on to the pitch. We are looking for people to help out with roles as varied as cricket, ground, bar, social, and fundraising. W&HCC End of Season Work Day - Sun 18th September

The traditional end of season Work Day will take place on Sunday 18th September from 10.00 at our home ground in Brewery Road. We need a number of people to come along for a couple of hours to put the ground to bed, take down the sightscreens, the netting over by Moors Nook, take the covers apart, and various other jobs. Many hands make light work. We hope to see you there.
