Welcome to the WHCC Colts

Please note that unfortunately we are currently unable to accept any new members to the following age groups, U6's, U7's, U8's, U9's, U10's & U11's.  Each of these groups is full with very large waiting lists.  If you are U6 and looking to join in 2019 and beyond or are over 11 years we welcome your enquiry. We are also looking for girls aged U8 to U13 who are interested in playing cricket.

WHCC has a large and thriving Colts’ section and welcomes both boys and girls from the age of 6/7 up to 17 (children can join when they're in year 1 at school). WHCC is committed to introducing cricket and the love of sport into the lives of as many youngsters as possible. First and foremost we want our young Colts to have FUN and to develop their sporting skills. We facilitate this by holding age specific coaching sessions, playing practice and competitive matches and encouraging & developing team spirit and the “spirit of cricket”. As they progress through to the U15 and U17 age groups the boys and girls are encouraged where appropriate to play for the senior, or mens’, cricket teams – it is not unknown for dads and sons to play alongside one another!

Our cricketing season runs from the end of April to late July and we hold indoor winter nets and training sessions from late January. The Colts meet for summer training on Friday evenings at the Club’s attractive Brewery Road ground, where parents can watch their budding young cricketers exercising, while relaxing in the evening sun with refreshments from the clubhouse bar.

We field teams in all age groups starting with the Under 9’s, entering a number of League, Cup & Friendly competitions and often run two teams in some of the larger age groups so we ensure that as many players as possible get a game.

WHCC Colts section is very much a family affair and we encourage the whole family to be part of the Club.  Every dad and mum is invited to play an active role if they wish which may include coaching*, umpiring*, scoring*, helping to run the busy and popular Friday bar sessions, taking a turn on the even more popular BBQ or helping out in a host of other areas.

* training courses are available

Our current Colt’s Chairman is Neil McPherson and he is supported by a team of volunteer coaches, managers (all of whom are CRB checked) and non-cricketing volunteers and a number of our own talented U15 and 17 players who help out with the coaching of the younger age group children. Where necessary we also bring in external coaches to supplement our training resources.

Q: What kit do I need for indoor training?

A: Indoor training is played either at Winston Churchill or Woking Sports Centre or another local sports venue depending on age groups; therefore trainers are needed. It is also useful to wear sports kit – tracksuit trousers and preferably a tee-shirt (ideally white) or cricket shirt. Some will wear white cricket trousers.

Club kit is available for all to use; we will make available bats and balls for the younger age group. For the older boys we have a full kit bag consisting of pads, helmets, batting gloves etc.

Obviously if your child has his/her own cricket equipment, then please bring it along.

For those boys in year 4 or higher, they will be playing hard-ball cricket, we encourage you to buy your own abdo-guard (or box). Also to avoid the box slipping, the boys will either need to buy cricket pants (they have a pocket at the front for the box, or will need to wear two pairs of pants).

It is also worthwhile to bring a drink of water to training sessions.
