Arriving at a home game to find the opposition all in whites and ready to go 25 minutes before the scheduled start time, whilst the home side arrive one by one upto and beyond the start time in jeans/t-shirts. Then the skipper disappears to pick up the scorer would hardly suggest a professional outfit, but from the moment Salam strode down the track 5th ball and smashed the Old Woking paceman back over his head into the sightscreen, the (mainly) young Woking and Horsell 20/20 side stamped their authority on the game and produced a thoroughly professional performance.
The batting was powerful - Jan Kreder regularly found the middle of the bat as the ball sailed out of the ground on many occasions during his quickfire 62. On one occasion the timing was not required as a mishit top-edge landed over the ropes. He was well supported by everyone, especially Bilal Mir (24*), the running between the wickets was superb and Henri Peters added a nice impetus at the end with 22. A score of 146 for 6 left a challenging but certainly attainable target.
However, Old Woking were up against the 1st XI bowling attack, spearheaded by the in-form Henri and Ryan Pogson. In truth the performance in the field was excellent, Liam (without the gloves today) led the way with a run out and some great stops, a special mention too to Shazad who failed to live up to his nickname by producing a very professional fielding performance. Perhaps the title of 'Pigeon of the day' will go to Jan after his 'harbour bridge' on the boundary.
Ryan picked up 3 wickets, Damo took 2 and Shazad burgled 2 in 2 balls at the end. Another special mention to young James Cole who came on amongst the 1st teamers and by no means looked out of place, bowling an excellent line and length and deservedly picking up a wicket. Old Woking were routed for 63.
Great to see a fair few people coming down to watch, families playing around the boundary and of course the bar open. Hope to see a few more people down for the next games.
All in all another succesful night in what has been an excellent start to the season for the club. Long may it continue, roll on saturday!
