Woking and Horsell Cricket Club is pleased to announce the award of honorary life membership to Erica Bonneywell for her outstanding service to the club over the last 20 years. For those of you unaware of the work that Erica has done, she has been the well respected 1st XI and Sunday scorer for all of those years, finally retiring from her Saturday 1st XI duties last year but continuing with the Sunday games. Turning up at games around the county without any fuss and regularly available (it would be great if we had more players like this!) at a time when many clubs have not had a scorer, we have been very lucky indeed. Erica will be missed by the 1st XI but her work will continue with the Sunday team and I'm sure we will continue to see her at the club on a Saturday on a regular basis.  I am sure you will all join me in congratulating Erica on her achievement.

The season kicked off to a fine start this weekend with 3 successful and enjoyable matches. The 1st XI and 2nd XI played and intraclub game at Brewery Rd on Saturday while the 3rd XI and 4th XI battled it out at the Park. The Sunday XI had their first game of the season at Brewery Rd.

The pitch at Brewery Rd was exceptional over the weekend, with over 850 runs scored over both days. A big thanks from all those that played (and watched!) to Mr Charlie Johnson, our home ground groundsman, for preparing such a fine wicket.

Bring on the season!

With the weather forecast improving for tomorrow we hope to have our first outdoor games of the season taking place in the afternoon. One at Woking Park and one at Brewery Road.

All those not playing are more than welcome to come down and watch. The bar will be open in the evening and there will be a bbq after the game. Read more: Intraclub games - 25 April

To all those that came down and helped out over the weekend we'd like to say a very, very big thank you on behalf of the Woking and Horsell Cricket Club. The weekend was a fantastic success and we were able to tick off most of the major jobs that we had planned - as well as some we hadn't! A special thanks goes to the Le Brocqs (great job on the tiling and the bbq), the Ways (top work on the gardens and the especially the plumbing) and the Hargans and Alby for helping out both days. There were quite a lot of others that came down just the Saturday or the Sunday who also contributed significantly - your efforts are all very much appreciated. We've been busy over the winter fixing and updating our web site and have come up with a site which we think should meet all the day to day demands of our club. Some things to note:

  • Please remember that the site is still under construction! If you have any problems or suggestions please contact the site administrator. Some pages are still awaiting content but will hopefully be up and running prior to the season start. Read more: We have a new website!

Winter nets have now begun. The nets take place every Tuesday night at the Woking Leisure Centre between 8:30pm and 10:00pm. Nets will be on every Tuesday now until the middle of April. Net fees are £4 per session. If you are a new player please come along to the nets and have a hit and a bowl. We're always on the lookout fr some new talent in the club! Alternatively please contact Billy Haragan here.
