The death of Sir Alec Bedser on 4 April 2010 at the age of 91 has attracted extensive coverage and lengthy obituaries in the national media, as befits one of the outstanding figures in the history of English cricket.  Rather than rehashing facts and figures widely reported elsewhere, this short tribute is by way of a more personal set of observations and memories, placing Alec in the context of local cricket and our club in particular.

Thank you very much indeed to everybody who attended the WHCC Cricket Ball at Sutton Green. Over £500 was raised for the club and although the turn out was less than we have had in the past a great night was had by all.

Special mention must be given to George Grafton who helped organise the event, to the raffle ticket sellers who helped raise a fantastic sum of money, to everybody who provided a prize and in particular the five companies who supplied us with some fantastic prizes - Barcelona Restaurant Woking, The Red Lion Pub Horsell, The Beijing Restaurant Horsell, David Lloyd Health Club and The Cricketers Pub Horsell.

We hope to see you all again next year!

The Woking and Horsell Cricket Club AGM was held on 14 October 2009. Below is the link to the 2009 Cricket Chairman's report submitted to the meeting. Formal minutes of the meeting are now also available below.

Over the weekend the club was honoured to present Erika Bonneywell with a portrait to commemorate her election as a life member and to thank her for all of her scoring and support of the club over many years. The portrait was undertaken by local artist David Drury and depicts Erika at the ground.

Some pictures of the presentation may be found here.

Woking and Horsell Cricket Club would like to reiterate their gratitude for Erika's service over the past 20 years and look forward to her association with the club for a long time to come.

Photos of the WHCC Family Fun Day are now online. You can view the gallery here.

The day was a resounding success and we are currently looking into hosting the event again in 2010. Watch this space!

The new nets are now complete! After 5 days of fortunate weather the nets were able to be finished on time and within budget. A very big thank you to Steve Wernberg for putting the effort in to get the construction organised and keep it managed. Thanks also to our tireless groundsman Charlie Johnson, who was instrumental in facilitating the works throughout the week.

The new nets include a full length track with proper bowling run-ups. As an added bonus the existing nets have now also had bowling run-ups added as well - it's even all marked out!

The nets should be ready for use in the next few days. You can find some photos of our fantastic new facilities here.
