Upon completion of the final Saturday league matches this weekend will be the 2016 Awards evening at the clubhouse.

The club looks to start the awards evening sometime from 7.30pm. However, the presentations will not commence until the return of our three away teams and their captains. The teams are playing at Addiscombe, Cheam and Staines. We do not have any control over match timings or return journeys.

If you have not had the opportunity to attend one of these evenings before, (please follow the link below as a taster- highlights of the 2015 event) it is when the club has the opportunity to celebrate club and individual successes and well those moments of undignified despair.

All are welcome, please do come along it promises to be a great evening as the presenters Calum Chisholm & Seb Egan have a few interesting things in store.

On Saturday 13 August, W&HCC and the Surrey Championship will be supporting the charity Cricket United which was created in 2013 by three cricket charities, the Lord’s Taverners, Chance to Shine and PCA Benevolent Fund and has already raised over £250,000 in the opening three years of the partnership. Their aim is to improve lives through the great game of cricket.

Cricket United will aim to turn the Kia Oval & the Ryman Surrey Championship blue during the third day of the Test Match against Pakistan. The idea follows similar lines to the Pink Day which the Glenn McGrath Foundation hold during the Sydney Test each year. More details can be found here - http://www.cricketunited.co.uk

Teams across the Surrey Championship will be using blue bails on Saturday 13 August to support and fundraise for the charity. Many of you will remember last year when £2,500 was raised for the charity by the Surrey Championship. You can learn more about Blue Bails Day 2016 and see some familiar faces on the Cricket United website

We would like everyone attending the club this Saturday, whether playing or watching, to wear blue to mark the occasion. Fortunately they have chosen a simple colour for W&H!  If you have one, why not wear the Cricket United t-shirt from last year.

On Saturday evening we will be running our popular Drink the Fridge evening at the club. Those of you who have attended in the past know that the premise is quite simple.  We simply stock the fridge up and attempt to drink all of it. We are yet to be defeated. We are aiming to run some drinks promotions on the night and don’t be surprised to see some blue drinks in there to fit in with the colour of the day and some fines to raise some money for the Cricket United charity. We will be aiming to start about 6.30, or earlier if the 1stXI game finishes before then, so come on down to Brewery Road and have an enjoyable evening.

Travelbag, the sponsor of the Surrey Championship for 2016, has announced three fabulous prize competitions for all of the players in the league. One lucky batsman, bowler and fielder will be walking away with a holiday for two at the end of the season, courtesy of Travelbag. Anyone reaching the qualifying criteria will be entered into an end-of-season draw, making this a competition anyone could win!

Surrey Championship President Roland Walton says: “This is a fabulous opportunity for players across the entire league to win the trip of a lifetime. Travelbag have been extremely proactive as sponsors and we are looking forward to this competition creating a real stir. We’d also remind clubs that the Championship could receive more revenue from Travelbag if people quote SURREY when asking for a quote for their holidays. There is a dedicated phone line for the sponsorship this year – 0871 4021503 – and if you are booking online, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. And remember that commissions on bookings are not just open to Travelbag Surrey Championship members or friends, so please do tell everyone!

Following the tragic and untimely loss of our friend Dave, your committee, and more importantly Dave’s family, have been discussing a fitting way to celebrate his cricketing life.

We have agreed that rather than hold our traditional President’s/Chairman’s Day on Sunday 26th June, we are going to hold two T20 matches at the club, one for the older colts and one for senior players.

The outline format for the day will be to start the Colts match a little earlier than previously published at around 12.30 and the Senior one after that finishes (approximately 3.30). We have booked a Hog Roast for 5pm and will also run the club BBQ as required. The bar will be open all day and we are using the day to promote the club more generally as part of the ECB Club Open Day scheme, supported by Waitrose so everyone is welcome to attend.

We would obviously like to see as many of you as possible throughout the day. Thank you. The teams are as below:
