The AGM on Thursday was reasonably attended and saw a good level of non players getting involved and taking personal responsibility for the clubs growth. It is however disappointing with the size of our playing membership that a higher proportion of players did not attend. A good number of items were discussed and these will be reviewed and appraised by the below list of elected members and captains.

There are challenges ahead as we move towards the 2017 season. Therefore, we would very much welcome further assistance to continue making the club a fantastic environment to play and watch cricket. Please do not just rely on the few below as its as much your club as it is theirs. A small amount of help does go a long way. Apathy will hinder the clubs growth, please do not let that happen.

Brewery Road Clubhouse 8PM start

The Annual Woking & Horsell AGM is one of the most important events of the year. In short it discusses and decides the fundamentals of the 2017 cricket season. Anything from nominating new captains, committee members, playing requirements, the pitch, finances and subscriptions to name just a few items.

This meeting allows all existing and potential members to voice their praise, views or opinions on how our club is run.

The club has a reasonably sized membership, including the colt section. However, the administration side is run by a small number who provide their time and passion to ensure regular cricket is maintained and played. In view of the small number not all roles are filled and often due to the size of some jobs support is often required. 

The club prides itself on its cosmopolitan and community spirit. There are however times when there are critical or ongoing matters whether playing or administration that need to be resolved and its not possible as we are stretched or simply we are not aware of them. So why not give some time to your club and make it better place than it is already? You love cricket and have the pleasure of enjoying the club facilities, so why not show your appreciation rather than just playing because someone else has organised it?

Please do not leave it to others as there is so much the few can do.

As you maybe aware  this summer Surrey County Cricket Club ran the yearly Bedser Scholarship campaign to find and support local talent within the state schools. Woking & Horsell were honoured that Surrey County Cricket Club nominated three out of the six scholars from our club. Well done to Alexander McPherson, Jude Silverton and Ramish Malik.   As part of their Scholarship all six winners receive funding towards kit and membership fees as well as winning 13 hours of coaching at the Surrey Indoor Cricket Centre in Guildford. 

To celebrate and promote the award they undertook recently a photo opportunity on the Bedser Bridge in Woking with Surrey and England legend Mickey Stewart. 

A Work Day will be held at the club on Saturday 17 September to take down the nets and sightscreens and tidy up the ground before the winter break. Please make every effort to attend. We aim to start at 10.00 but if you're not there until a bit later that is fine. Many hands make light work!

Upon completion of the final Saturday league matches this weekend will be the 2016 Awards evening at the clubhouse.

The club looks to start the awards evening sometime from 7.30pm. However, the presentations will not commence until the return of our three away teams and their captains. The teams are playing at Addiscombe, Cheam and Staines. We do not have any control over match timings or return journeys.

If you have not had the opportunity to attend one of these evenings before, (please follow the link below as a taster- highlights of the 2015 event) it is when the club has the opportunity to celebrate club and individual successes and well those moments of undignified despair.

All are welcome, please do come along it promises to be a great evening as the presenters Calum Chisholm & Seb Egan have a few interesting things in store.

On Saturday 13 August, W&HCC and the Surrey Championship will be supporting the charity Cricket United which was created in 2013 by three cricket charities, the Lord’s Taverners, Chance to Shine and PCA Benevolent Fund and has already raised over £250,000 in the opening three years of the partnership. Their aim is to improve lives through the great game of cricket.

Cricket United will aim to turn the Kia Oval & the Ryman Surrey Championship blue during the third day of the Test Match against Pakistan. The idea follows similar lines to the Pink Day which the Glenn McGrath Foundation hold during the Sydney Test each year. More details can be found here - http://www.cricketunited.co.uk

Teams across the Surrey Championship will be using blue bails on Saturday 13 August to support and fundraise for the charity. Many of you will remember last year when £2,500 was raised for the charity by the Surrey Championship. We would like everyone attending the club this Saturday, whether playing or watching, to wear blue to mark the occasion. Fortunately they have chosen a simple colour for W&H!  If you have one, why not wear the Cricket United t-shirt from last year.

On Saturday evening we will be running our popular Drink the Fridge evening at the club. Those of you who have attended in the past know that the premise is quite simple.  We simply stock the fridge up and attempt to drink all of it. We are yet to be defeated. We are aiming to run some drinks promotions on the night and don’t be surprised to see some blue drinks in there to fit in with the colour of the day and some fines to raise some money for the Cricket United charity. We will be aiming to start about 6.30, or earlier if the 1stXI game finishes before then, so come on down to Brewery Road and have an enjoyable evening.
